We are often assisted by several other charity minded Irish organizations like the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Women of Irish Heritage and the Emerald Society to name a few. Others that are posted in the Club on the bulletin board at the rear of the Club.įSOS also holds charitable events including:Ĭhristmas Toy Drive in conjunction with the US Marine Corps “Toys for Tots”. While the Shillelagh Membership may host and spearhead these events, and many more, we do not do it alone.

In 1997 with a membership of approximately 150 members the organization opened its clubhouse and the membership finally had a home to call its own. A shillelagh is an Irish tool which functions as a walking stick, dueling weapon, and club all in one. The FSOS Started in 1964 by a group of 45 men in Old Bridge, NJ who petitioned Jackie Gleason for the use of the name and he graciously agreed. The FSOS is a member only organization and supports local communities and people needing assistance. It is also a non-profit, non-sectarian and non-political organization. Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh of the Jersey Shore (FSOS) is a social organization dedicated to the purpose of promoting and enhancing good fellowship, Irish heritage, and fraternity of its members.
